RINSE & REPEAT
Rinse and Repeat is a multimedia dance-theater performance exploring how emotional labor and algorithmic control reshape consent for women and girls in America’s digital town square.
Rinse and Repeat is a multimedia dance-theater performance exploring how emotional labor and algorithmic control reshape consent for women and girls in America’s digital town square. The title references common shampoo bottle instructions that subtly promote endless consumption, and implies that this “rinse and repeat” cycle mirrors our daily use of technology. Through choreography, projection, sound, and text, Rinse and Repeat investigates how consent of the governed, a cornerstone of democracy, is violated when digital systems extract participation from women and girls without true consent.
Rinse & Repeat was commissioned by James Madison University’s Virginia Repertory Dance Company.
