values
We value every dancer's hard work, health, and happiness, whether it's during an audition, in a rehearsal studio, or under the stage lights.
BUSINESS PRACTICES
We believe in creating and sustaining artistic practices that are not just focused on creativity, but also caring for the people who make it happen.
-
We believe in transparent and equitable compensation for all collaborators, especially dancers, who face significant pay inequities. We currently pay $20/hour for rehearsals and performances, exceeding minimum wage in our home of Washington, DC.
-
We prioritize work-life (or as we like to call it, art-life) balance. We build company schedules off dancer availability, rather than requiring dancers to make their lives fit a predetermined schedule.
-
We prioritize honesty and clarity in our work together. That includes always having contracts and expectations set from the start of any project.
CREATIVE PRACTICES
We believe a great process is just as important as an amazing performance, because how we make the art shapes the art itself.
-
We believe in chasing ideas all the way down the rabbit hole, whether they lead to breakthroughs, tangles, or both. Our work thrives on asking βwhat if?β and letting discovery shape the journey.
-
Everything we make is built on conversation between dancers, audiences, and the communities we move within. We value diverse perspectives and invite the kind of dialogue that makes us think, imagine, and grow.
-
Connection is the foundation of how we work together. We build an environment of care, support, and joy where dancers and collaborators can take risks, grow, and create at their fullest potential.
PERFORMANCE PRACTICES
We make work that disrupts the expected, treats performance as a conversation, and insists that rigor and joy can live side by side.
-
We value art that doesnβt play it safe. Performance is our way of asking hard questions, shaking up assumptions, and refusing passive consumption. We believe audiences deserve to be challenged as much as they are entertained.
-
We value dissolving the barrier between artist and audience. For us, performance isnβt a one-way street but a shared experience. Participation, presence, and dialogue matter more than sitting quietly in the dark.
-
We value humor, risk, and experimentation. Play reminds us that art is meant to be a human-to-human exchange, not a polished product on a pedestal.
