Tooth and Claw is a sprawling dance set to a reimagined version of ABBA’s Money, Money, Money. Inspired by metaphors of labor and success, the piece explores what it means to work and truly rest in America. The piece explores metaphors of capitalism, the myth of American exceptionalism, and the concept of “tall poppy syndrome.” This occurs when people are attacked, resented, disliked, criticized, or cut down because of their achievements. The Tallest Poppy, a study led by Dr. Rumeet Billan, reveals the consequences of this silent systemic syndrome and the impact it has on women and gender minorities in the workplace.

The creation of Tooth and Claw was supported by the Atlas Arts Lab Fellowship. A new, 30-person cast version is being supported by the Montgomery County Artists & Scholars Project Grant.
