Veritas is a multimedia dance performance about how truth can be silenced, distorted, or erased entirely by American mass media. Featuring original music and projections, Veritas calls into question for each audience member how willing they are to defend the truth in their own lives.

*Disclaimer: This performance features flashing lights that may be triggering for people with photosensitivity. This show also features some intense and stimulating content (lights, sounds, movement, etc.) that may be triggering for people who experience overstimulation.

The performance is being presented by Joe's Movement Emporium in Mt Rainier, MD. 

Metro Directions
Take the red line train to Rhode Island Ave. Then take a short bus ride on the 82, 84, 86, or T-18 bus. Walk up 34th Street to the first stop sign and make a left on Bunker Hill Road, Joe’s is immediately on your left.

 

Green line:

Take the train to West Hyattsville. Take a short bus ride on the F1 or F2 bus.

ALL BUSES STOP AT 34th STREET AND RHODE ISLAND AVE IN MT RAINIER. Walk up 34th Street to the first stop sign and make a left on Bunker Hill Road, Joe’s is immediately on your left.

Driving Directions
From the Maryland Beltway:

Exit at College Park/Route 1 South. Continue on Route 1 and take a right on 34th St at the roundabout. Go to your first stop sign and make a left on Bunker Hill Road, Joe’s is immediately on your left.

From Washington, DC:

Head East on Rhode Island Ave. After Eastern Ave., go 3/4 of the way around the traffic circle. Make a right on 34th St (going up the hill). Go to your first stop sign and make a left on Bunker Hill Road, Joe’s is immediately on your left.

Parking Directions
Park in Joe’s lot to the right of the building for FREE, meter parking is available on Bunker Hill Road, 34th Street, and Rhode Island Avenue. 

Is the event indoors? What kind of COVID-19 safety precautions are in place?

The performance is held inside a theater at Joe's Movement Emporium. To ensure the safety of all attendees, Joe's has put several measures in place.

  • The show has significantly reduced capacity to allow for social distancing (so make sure you snag your ticket before they're gone!)

  • There will be temperature checks for all who enter 

  • Masks are required

  • Proof of vaccination is required (you may show the physical vaccination card or a photo of the card on your phone)

  • If you are unable to be vaccinated, you must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the last 72 hours on the day of the performance

  • No concessions and no outside food or drink

Are there any content advisories for this show? Is this appropriate for children?

The performance does not include any graphic imagery or explicit language. Elements of the show may be intense or scary for young children (flashing lights, performers in masks, people moving in the dark, etc.). 

Who is putting on this show?

Led by Madeline Maxine Gorman, the show is presented by GRIDLOCK Dance—a contemporary dance company based in Washington, DC. The collaborators include Shianne Antoine, Kayla Clancy, Destiny Cooke, Bill Gorman, Lightning Golem, Madeline Maxine Gorman, John McAfee, Dylan Lambert, and Tristan Speleos. 

 

The performance is commissioned by Joe's Movement Emporium. Located in the town center of Mount Rainier, Maryland within the Prince George’s County Gateway Arts District, the organization supports and promotes creative projects of local artists and community groups.
